Blog: P2P

File sharing is the practice of sharing or offering access to digital information or resources. This includes documents, multimedia, graphics, computer programs, images, and e-books. P2P file sharing is enabled by software that treats users as both clients and servers. Rather than a centralized server, P2P file sharing refers to the distribution of digital media over a P2P network. An example of P2P file sharing is the Lending Club, which offers P2P lending. The system at Lending Club works by having investors put up money to fund loans, and consumers get lower rates than they would at a conventional lender. In the industry's early days, most of the money was coming from institutional investors, but today, insurance companies and pension funds have been joining in. The market for P2P lending is expanding, and Lending Club's Laplanche believes "We can become the mainstream alternative to the banking system."

  1. Oh wow, that is interesting that insurance companies and pension funds are joining in on this P2P lending. Do you really think P2P lending can be the mainstream alternative to the banking system?

  2. I enjoyed reading your post and learned something new! I'm only familiar with P2P sharing being used for downloads such as torrenting. I didn't know it can be utilized to do normal daily functions such as lending. What a time to be alive!
